In 1906, Pierre du Pont of the famed du Pont family purchased the land that was originally a working farm from 1700. An arboretum was planted a century later and within 50 years, it became of America's first public parks, featuring an amazing collection of trees. For the next 25 years, du Pont worked incredibly hard to create what has become known as Longwood Gardens. Open every day of the year, Longwood Gardens' operating hours change throughout the season. Ticket prices also vary, ranging from $2.00 to $15.00. Children under five are free.
